Quick Start Guide

3 min read

This guide gets you from zero to collecting form responses in under three minutes. No prior experience with WittyForm is required.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Go to wittyform.com and click Get Started Free. Sign up with your email address or use Google authentication for one-click access. No credit card is required for the free plan.

Step 2: Create a New Form

Once you land on the dashboard, click the New Form button. You have three options:

  • Start from scratch: A blank canvas for full control.
  • Use a template: Pick from dozens of pre-built templates.
  • Generate with AI: Describe what you need in plain language and let AI build the form for you.

For this quick start, select Start from scratch and give your form a name (e.g., "Contact Form").

Step 3: Add Your Fields

You are now in the form builder. Click the + button or drag a field from the sidebar to add it to your form. Add three fields to get started:

  1. Short Text: Label it "Full Name" and toggle Required on.
  2. Email: Label it "Email Address". The email field automatically validates the format.
  3. Long Text: Label it "Message". Optionally set a placeholder like "How can we help?".

Each field can be configured in the right-hand settings panel. You can set placeholder text, helper text, validation rules, and more.

Step 4: Preview and Test

Click the Preview button in the top toolbar to see your form exactly as respondents will see it. Fill out the form yourself to verify that validation works and the experience is smooth.

Step 5: Publish Your Form

Click Publish in the top-right corner. Your form is now live. You will see several sharing options:

  • Direct link: Copy and share the URL anywhere.
  • Embed code: Drop an iframe or JavaScript snippet into your website.
  • QR code: Download a QR code that links to your form.

Step 6: Collect Your First Response

Open the direct link in a new browser tab (or share it with someone) and submit a test response. Navigate back to the dashboard and click on your form. The Responses tab shows every submission in real time with timestamps and all field data.

Tip: Enable email notifications in your form settings to receive an alert every time someone submits a response.

What Next?

Now that you have a working form, explore these features to take it further:

  • Conditional logic: Show or hide fields based on previous answers.
  • Multi-page forms: Break long forms into manageable steps.
  • Integrations: Send responses to Google Sheets, Slack, or your own API via webhooks.
  • Themes: Customize colors, fonts, and layout to match your brand.
