Setting Up Payment Fields

5 min read

WittyForm lets you collect payments directly within your forms using Stripe. Whether you are selling products, accepting donations, collecting registration fees, or setting up subscriptions, payment fields make it seamless.

Connecting Stripe

Before adding a payment field, you need to connect your Stripe account to WittyForm. This is a one-time setup:

  1. Go to Settings > Payments in your WittyForm dashboard.
  2. Find Stripe in the integrations list and click Connect.
  3. You will be redirected to Stripe to authorize the connection. Sign in to your Stripe account (or create one if you do not have one).
  4. Authorize WittyForm to access your Stripe account for processing payments.
  5. You will be redirected back to WittyForm with the integration confirmed.

Once connected, the Stripe integration status will show as Active in your integrations settings.

Adding a Payment Field

With Stripe connected, you can add a payment field to any form:

  1. Open your form in the editor.
  2. Find Payment in the field panel under the Special category.
  3. Click it or drag it onto the canvas.
  4. Click the payment field to configure it in the right panel.

Configuring Amount Type

The payment field settings let you choose how the charge amount is decided:

Fixed Amount

Charge the same amount to every respondent. This is ideal for registration fees, course enrollment, consultation fees, or a single product purchase.

Pay What You Want

Let respondents enter their own amount before card details appear. This works well for donations, tips, and pay-what-you-want forms. Set a minimum and maximum amount so every payment stays inside the range you allow.

From Distance

Charge the verified fare from a Distance field. WittyForm verifies the calculated distance fare server-side before creating the Stripe payment.

One-Time Payments

Payment fields currently charge one-time payments through Stripe. The respondent is charged once during form submission.

Currency

Select the currency for your payment field. WittyForm supports all currencies available through Stripe, including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, and many more. The currency symbol is displayed to respondents in the payment field.

Testing Payments

Before going live, test your payment form to make sure everything works correctly:

  1. Use a connected Stripe account in test mode so no real charges are made.
  2. Open the published form and complete a test submission using Stripe's test card number: 4242 4242 4242 4242 with any future expiration date and any 3-digit CVC.
  3. Verify the test transaction appears in both your WittyForm responses and your Stripe dashboard under test mode.
  4. When everything looks good, disable test mode and publish your form for real payments.
Important: Always test with test mode enabled before accepting real payments. Never use real card numbers during testing.

Viewing Transactions

Payment information is attached to each form response. When you open a response that includes a payment:

  • Payment status: Whether the payment succeeded, failed, or is pending.
  • Amount charged: The exact amount and currency.
  • Stripe transaction ID: A direct link to the transaction in your Stripe dashboard for detailed payment management.

You can also view a summary of all payments across a form in the Analytics tab, which shows total revenue, average payment amount, and transaction count.

Refunds

To refund a payment, click the Stripe transaction link in the response detail view. This opens the transaction in your Stripe dashboard where you can issue a full or partial refund. Refunds are processed through Stripe directly and typically take 5-10 business days to appear on the respondent's statement.

Security

All payment processing is handled securely by Stripe. WittyForm never stores credit card numbers or sensitive payment information. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of security certification in the payments industry.
