Google Sheets Integration
Overview
The Google Sheets integration lets you automatically send every form submission to a Google Sheets spreadsheet. Each submission creates a new row, making it easy to analyze data, share results with your team, and build reports using tools you already know.
Connecting Your Google Account
- Open your form in the editor and go to the Integrations tab.
- Find Google Sheets and click Connect.
- A Google sign-in window will open. Select the Google account you want to use and grant WittyForm permission to access your Google Sheets. WittyForm only requests access to create and edit spreadsheets: it does not access other files in your Google Drive.
- Once authorized, you will be redirected back to WittyForm and see a "Connected" status.
Selecting or Creating a Spreadsheet
After connecting your account, choose where submissions should go:
- Create New Spreadsheet: WittyForm creates a new Google Sheets file in your Google Drive. It is automatically named after your form (e.g., "Contact Form - Responses").
- Use Existing Spreadsheet: Browse or search your Google Drive to select an existing spreadsheet. You can also paste a spreadsheet URL directly.
If you choose an existing spreadsheet, you can select which sheet tab to write to. If the tab does not exist yet, WittyForm can create one for you.
Mapping Form Fields to Columns
WittyForm automatically maps each form field to a column in your spreadsheet. The mapping screen shows:
- Form Field (left column): Each field in your form.
- Spreadsheet Column (right column): The corresponding column header in Google Sheets.
You can customize the mapping:
- Rename columns: Change the column header text to match your preferred naming convention.
- Reorder columns: Drag fields to change the column order in the spreadsheet.
- Exclude fields: Uncheck fields you do not want to send to the spreadsheet.
- Add metadata columns: Include extra data like submission date, submission ID, or respondent IP address.
Auto-Sync on Submission
Once configured, every new form submission is automatically sent to your Google Sheet within seconds. No manual export is needed. The integration works in the background:
- New submissions are appended as new rows at the bottom of the sheet.
- Existing rows are never modified or overwritten.
- If you add new fields to your form, new columns are automatically added to the sheet.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Submissions Not Appearing in Google Sheets
- Check the connection status: Go to Integrations > Google Sheets and verify it shows "Connected". If it shows "Disconnected", re-authenticate your Google account.
- Check the spreadsheet: Make sure the spreadsheet has not been deleted or moved to trash in Google Drive.
- Check permissions: Ensure your Google account still has edit access to the spreadsheet.
Data Appears in Wrong Columns
- Do not manually rename or reorder column headers in Google Sheets after setting up the integration. Use the WittyForm mapping screen instead.
- If columns are misaligned, go to the integration settings and click Re-sync Columns to reset the mapping.
Duplicate Rows
- Check if you have multiple Google Sheets integrations configured for the same form. Remove duplicates in the Integrations tab.
Authorization Expired
- Google OAuth tokens can expire if unused for an extended period. If submissions stop syncing, disconnect and reconnect your Google account in the integration settings.
Tips
- You can connect multiple forms to the same spreadsheet by using different sheet tabs.
- Use Google Sheets formulas, charts, and pivot tables on your response data for advanced analysis.
- Share the Google Sheet with team members who need access to response data without giving them WittyForm access.
