Social Sharing

4 min read

The Share tab in WittyForm gives you everything you need to distribute your form across social media platforms. You can share directly to Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp, customize how your form appears in social previews, and copy a shareable link with one click.

Accessing the Share Tab

Open any published form and click the Share tab in the top navigation bar. This tab provides your form's public URL, social share buttons, and OG (Open Graph) preview settings.

Social Share Buttons

The Share tab displays one-click share buttons for major social platforms:

  • Twitter/X: Opens a pre-filled tweet with your form link and title. The tweet text is editable before posting.
  • Facebook: Opens the Facebook share dialog with your form URL. Facebook pulls the OG image and description automatically.
  • LinkedIn: Opens a LinkedIn post composer with the form URL pre-filled. Ideal for B2B forms, surveys, and professional quizzes.
  • WhatsApp: Opens a WhatsApp message with the form link. Works on both mobile and WhatsApp Web.

Each button generates a platform-specific sharing URL. When clicked, it opens the respective platform's sharing interface in a new tab with your form link pre-populated.

Copy Link Button

Click the Copy Link button to copy your form's public URL to the clipboard. A confirmation toast appears when the link is copied. Use this to paste the link into emails, chat messages, documents, or any other medium.

The copied URL uses your custom slug if you have set one (e.g., wittyform.com/form/customer-feedback) or falls back to the auto-generated form ID.

Customizing the Social Preview

When someone shares your form link on social media, the platform displays a preview card pulled from Open Graph (OG) meta tags. You can customize this preview in the Share tab:

OG Title

The headline that appears in the social preview card. Defaults to your form title. Keep it under 60 characters for best display across platforms.

OG Description

A short description that appears below the title. Defaults to your form description if set. Aim for 120-160 characters. Make it compelling: this is what convinces people to click.

OG Image

The image displayed in the preview card. Upload a custom image (recommended 1200x630 pixels for optimal display) or let WittyForm auto-generate a preview image based on your form design. A strong OG image can dramatically increase click-through rates.

After editing OG settings, click Save. Use the Preview button to see how your form will look when shared on each platform.

Note: Social platforms cache OG data. If you update your OG settings after already sharing the form, you may need to clear each platform's cache. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger, Twitter's Card Validator, or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to force a refresh.

Tracking Shares

WittyForm tracks how often your form is shared via each social platform. View share analytics in the Analytics tab:

  • Share count by platform: See how many times the share button was clicked for each social network.
  • Click-through rate: Track how many people who saw the shared link actually opened the form.
  • Source attribution: In the Responses tab, each submission shows the referring source. Responses that came from social shares are tagged with the platform name.

Best Practices for Social Form Distribution

  • Write a compelling OG description: Tell people what they will get from filling out your form. "Find out your leadership style in 2 minutes" converts better than "Leadership assessment form."
  • Use a custom OG image: Forms with custom images get significantly more engagement than those with generic or auto-generated previews. Include your brand colors and a clear call-to-action on the image.
  • Keep the form short for social traffic: Social media visitors have short attention spans. If your form is long, consider creating a shorter version specifically for social distribution.
  • Add UTM parameters: Use the Link settings tab to append UTM parameters to your social share URLs. This lets you track social traffic in Google Analytics alongside your other campaigns.
  • Time your shares: Post during peak hours for your audience. B2B forms perform best on LinkedIn during business hours (Tuesday-Thursday). Consumer surveys do well on Facebook and WhatsApp during evenings and weekends.
  • Share quiz results: For quizzes, enable the "Share results" button on the result page. When quiz-takers share their result, it drives organic traffic back to your quiz.
