Connecting with Zapier
What Is Zapier?
Zapier is an automation platform that connects thousands of apps without code. By connecting WittyForm to Zapier, you can automatically send form submission data to hundreds of other services like CRMs, email marketing tools, project management apps, databases, and more.
Finding WittyForm on Zapier
- Log in to your Zapier account (or create a free account at zapier.com).
- Click Create Zap to start a new automation.
- In the Trigger step, search for WittyForm in the app search bar.
- Select WittyForm from the results.
Creating a Zap
Step 1: Set Up the Trigger
- Choose the trigger event. The primary trigger is New Submission, which fires every time someone submits a form.
- Click Continue and connect your WittyForm account by entering your API key. You can find your API key in WittyForm Dashboard > Settings > API.
- Select the specific form you want to trigger on from the dropdown list.
- Click Test Trigger. Zapier will pull in a recent submission from your form to use as sample data. If no submissions exist yet, submit a test response first.
Step 2: Set Up the Action
- Click the Action step and search for the app you want to send data to (e.g., Google Sheets, Mailchimp, Salesforce, Slack).
- Choose an action event. For example:
- Google Sheets → "Create Spreadsheet Row"
- Mailchimp → "Add/Update Subscriber"
- Salesforce → "Create Lead"
- Slack → "Send Channel Message"
- Connect your account for the action app.
- Map WittyForm fields to the action app's fields. Zapier shows the form field data from the test trigger so you can map each value to the correct destination field.
Step 3: Test and Publish
- Click Test Step to send the sample data to your action app. Verify the data arrived correctly.
- Click Publish Zap to activate the automation.
Popular Zap Recipes
Here are some of the most popular WittyForm + Zapier automations:
Add Submissions to a CRM
Automatically create a new contact or lead in Salesforce, HubSpot, or Pipedrive when a form is submitted. Map name, email, company, and other fields to CRM contact properties.
Send a Personalized Email
Trigger a welcome email via Mailchimp, SendGrid, or Gmail when someone signs up through your form. Use form data to personalize the email content.
Create a Task or Ticket
Create a task in Asana, Trello, or Jira from form submissions. Useful for support request forms, bug reports, or project intake forms.
Save to a Database
Write form data to Airtable, Notion, or a SQL database. Great for building custom backends without writing code.
Send an SMS
Trigger an SMS notification via Twilio when a high-priority form submission comes in. Combine with Zapier filters to only send for specific answers.
Testing the Connection
After publishing your Zap:
- Submit a real test response to your WittyForm.
- Check your Zapier Task History to confirm the Zap ran successfully.
- Verify the data arrived in your action app with all fields correctly mapped.
- If the Zap failed, check the error details in Task History. Common issues include incorrect field mapping, expired app credentials, or missing required fields.
Tips
- Use Zapier Filters: Add a filter step to only trigger actions for specific submissions (e.g., only leads from a certain country or with a budget above a threshold).
- Multi-step Zaps: Chain multiple actions in a single Zap. For example: create a CRM contact AND send a Slack notification AND add to a mailing list.
- Zapier Paths: Use paths to route different submissions to different actions based on form answers.
- Formatter: Use Zapier's built-in Formatter to transform data before sending it (e.g., capitalize names, format dates, extract text).
